Doha: Israeli forces opened fire near Lebanese army units in the town of Zawtar Al-Gharbiyah in Nabatieh District, southern Lebanon, the Lebanese military said in a statement Tuesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the statement emphasized that this assault could disrupt the implementation of deployment steps in the pilot areas being conducted as part of ongoing contacts with the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L). A Lebanese military source disclosed to Qatar News Agency's correspondent in Beirut that there is no specific timeline for further Israeli withdrawals, particularly from Zawtar Al-Sharqiyah.
The source detailed that the occupation forces still maintain their presence on the outskirts of the town and continue incursions, along with bombings and the leveling of buildings, as they have been doing in Zawtar Al-Gharbiyah. Lebanese military units were deployed to Zawtar Al-Gharbiyah following the occupation's retreat as part of the framework module signed between Lebanon and Israel.
Currently, the Lebanese military restricts civilian entry into the town until essential military and security procedures are fully completed to ensure their safety and confirm that the area is free of risks. Zawtar Al-Gharbiyah is the first pilot zone from which the Israeli occupation forces were expected to withdraw based on the agreement and in accordance with the module signed on June 26.
