Israeli Airstrike on Southern Lebanon Kills One

Doha: A Lebanese citizen was killed on Sunday in an Israeli air raid in two areas in southern Lebanon, the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) of the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported. The incident has raised tensions in the region, highlighting ongoing conflicts despite previous agreements aimed at restoring peace.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Israeli occupation continues to breach the ceasefire deal in southern Lebanon that took effect after being signed on Nov. 27, 2024. Under this agreement, the Israeli occupation forces were expected to withdraw from border villages and towns in southern Lebanon within a 60-day deadline. The Lebanese government had agreed to extend the deadline until Feb. 18, but Israeli forces have maintained their presence in five locations.

The continued military presence and recent airstrike have exacerbated the fragile situation, drawing criticism from Lebanese authorities and international observers who are urging for a return to negotiations and adherence to the ceasefire. The Lebanese government is expected to engage in diplomatic efforts to address the violations and seek international support to enforce the ceasefire terms.
