Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met on Monday with United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, who is currently visiting Iraq.
During the meeting, aspects of cooperation between Iraq and the UN Commission were discussed to enhance the protection of human rights in line with the Iraqi constitution and the orientations and values of Iraqi society.
The two sides reviewed the effects of climate change in Iraq on human rights, Iraq’s efforts in promoting women’s rights and empowering them politically and economically, as well as freedom of opinion and expression.
It was also discussed in the meeting the formation of associations in accordance with standards of justice and the provision of legal guarantees, to achieve civil and political freedoms for all Iraqis.
