The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed on Thursday, its assertion that the three islands in the Gulf are an integral part of Iranian territory.
The Ministry’s Spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, said in his response to the statement of the Arab-Japanese political dialogue meeting in Cairo, “(Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb) are an integral and eternal part of Iranian territory, and mentioning them in the final statement of the aforementioned meeting lacks any political and legal value.”
Kanaani categorically refused to “touch the islands in the aforementioned statement,” and considered it “in violation of the rules of international law, especially the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and respect for the territorial integrity of countries.”
The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy, Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, said earlier that his country is determined to develop disputed islands with the UAE in the Gulf.
It is worth noting that the region includes 4 islands in the Gulf, three of which are disputed with the Emirates: Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa, and another island is Siri./End
