Doha: The Islamic Republic of Iran has requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address and condemn the recent Israeli attacks on its territory.
According to Qatar News Agency, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, sent an urgent official letter to the President of the Security Council. In the letter, Iravani strongly condemned the Israeli strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and senior military officials, urging the Council to take decisive and firm action in response.
Iravani emphasized that the deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities constitutes a grave violation of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM) and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA) – international frameworks to which Iran is a committed party. He warned that the continuation of such actions could establish a dangerous precedent, undermining international norms and threatening collective global security.
Furthermore, Iravani stressed that these attacks represent a serious violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as a sovereign United Nations member state. He noted that under international law and international humanitarian law, the actions qualify as an act of aggression.
