ICJ Rejects Nicaragua’s Lawsuit Against Germany for Violating Convention on Prevention of Genocide in Gaza

The Hague, The United Nations International Court of Justice on Tuesday rejected a request submitted by Nicaragua demanding that urgent measures be taken regarding Germanys violation of the 1948 Convention for the Prevention of Genocide by supplying the Israeli entity with weapons that it uses in its aggression against the Gaza Strip.

The court said, in its ruling, that there was no basis for imposing the immediate measures requested by Nicaragua against Germany. The judges however did not agree to Germanys request to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Nicaragua against it, with today’s ruling only saying there was no merit for an urgent request by Nicaragua.

It is worth noting that Nicaragua had filed a lawsuit in early April with the International Court of Justice accusing Germany of complicity in the genocide against the residents of the Gaza Strip, demanding that it stop supplying arms to the Israeli occupation.

Last January, the International Court of Justice ordered the Israeli occupation, based on a laws
uit filed by South Africa, to avoid any actions that might fall under the scope of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
