Doha: On the Arab front, Al-Raya newspaper emphasized that the current reality has proven to the world that there is no option except the establishment of a Palestinian state within the framework of the two-state solution, noting that the recent historic recognitions by the governments of the UK, Canada, and Australia further strengthen international support for the Palestinian people and their just cause.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspaper added that the joint step taken by the UK, Canada, and Australia represents a significant historic development toward achieving justice and international legitimacy, and reflects the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. It stressed that this recognition will not be the last, as many more historic stances are expected to follow, given that it is the only viable option for ending the conflict and establishing peace and stability in the Middle East.
The newspaper concluded by stating that what is urgently needed now is effective global alignment to confront the extremist and provocative policies of the Israeli occupation, in order to prevent the continuation of the cycle of violence in the region and its potential spread globally.
For its part, Al-Watan newspaper reported that international recognitions of the State of Palestine have been steadily increasing, following the official announcement by the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia yesterday recognizing the State of Palestine. With these recognitions, the number of countries that have recognized Palestine has risen to 149 out of 193 UN member states, it added.
In its editorial, the newspaper said that the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted the ‘New York Declaration’ last Friday, which is a Saudi-French initiative aimed at reviving and supporting the two-state solution. The declaration outlines concrete, time-bound, and irreversible steps toward achieving that solution, making this a historic day for Palestine.
It added that there is no doubt the recognitions announced yesterday are bold and courageous decisions, consistent with international law and UN resolutions, and stem from a genuine desire by those countries to end the occupation and achieve peace, pointing out that these recognitions also provide added momentum to regional and international efforts to implement the New York Declaration and to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The newspaper concluded by stressing that Israel’s continued impunity, despite the crimes documented by human rights organizations and international courts, represents a fatal flaw in the international system. It is unacceptable that a state which systematically violates human rights and international humanitarian law continues to enjoy normal relations with the world, as if nothing has happened.
As for the Peninsula, it said in its editorial that with the latest wave of recognitions, more than 150 out of 193 UN member states now officially acknowledge the State of Palestine. This growing consensus was reinforced in recent days by a historic move from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, nations whose heavy political weight and influence on global affairs signal a decisive shift toward justice, peace, and international stability.
This momentum follows the overwhelming adoption of the New York Declaration at the UN General Assembly recently, which is a joint Saudi-French initiative that lays out concrete, time-bound, and irreversible steps toward achieving a two-state solution, the newspaper said, adding that these developments mark a ratification of long-denied rights and a correction of wrong historical stands that for over seven decades have inflicted immense suffering on the Palestinian people.
These recognitions come against the backdrop of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, rising violence in the West Bank, and decades of stalled negotiations. They represent not only solidarity with the Palestinian struggle but also a clear acknowledgment that peace in the Middle East and stability in the world cannot be achieved without justice for Palestine, the newspaper emphasized.
It noted that by joining the ranks of nations that affirm Palestinian statehood, the UK, Canada, Australia, Portugal, and Malta are sending a powerful diplomatic message: the era of turning a blind eye to occupation and suffering must end. Their decision amplifies the call for a just peace and breathes new life into the long-sought two-state solution.
It concluded by stressing that in the words of many who have long advocated for justice, this is not just diplomacy, it is history correcting itself. Israel cannot defy the will of the international community.
