Riyadh: Building on the deep-rooted historical ties and fraternal relations uniting the leaderships of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar, HH the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani concluded a significant visit to Saudi Arabia. The visit was made at the gracious invitation of HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
According to Qatar News Agency, the visit included an official session of talks held at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh. During the session, the leaders reviewed their close bilateral relations, explored prospects for joint cooperation, and discussed avenues for further strengthening their relationship. Both sides commended the positive outcomes of reciprocal visits, which have significantly enhanced the level of cooperation between the two states.
The visit saw the convening of the Eighth Meeting of the Qatari-Saudi Coordination Council, co-chaired by the Amir of Qatar and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. The council reviewed the distinguished bilateral relations and affirmed the importance of sustaining joint coordination in key areas such as political, security, energy, economy, and education.
Both sides noted the remarkable increase in trade exchange, which reached USD 930.3 million in 2024, and underscored the importance of diversifying and expanding trade exchange in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030. They also emphasized sustainable bilateral investment cooperation and the importance of enhancing global energy market stability.
The parties agreed on the need for strengthened cooperation in climate policies, focusing on emissions rather than sources. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of collaboration in the digital economy, industry, youth programs, education, media, cybersecurity, and health.
In defense and security, the leaders expressed their determination to enhance their partnership and commended existing cooperation. They welcomed the signing of the High-Speed Electric Rail Link Agreement and several other agreements during the visit, covering various sectors.
On international affairs, both sides reaffirmed their resolve to safeguard international peace and security and exchanged views on regional and international issues. The Saudi side appreciated Qatar’s ratification of the Charter of the World Water Organization.
At the conclusion, HH the Amir of Qatar expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality, while the Crown Prince extended his best wishes for continued prosperity to the people of Qatar.
