Gaza strip: Head of the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), Ali Shaath stated that the reopening of the Rafah land crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt is not merely an administrative procedure, but rather the beginning of a new path and offers a genuine glimmer of hope for Palestinians in the Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, Shaath emphasized in a press statement today that the operation of the crossing embodies a collaborative achievement involving partners committed to facilitating movement, a key element of the 20-point plan launched by US President Donald Trump to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
He added that NCAG is working in cooperation with mediators, the Palestinian National Authority, and the US Presidential Peace Council to ensure that this step serves as a gateway to broader stability arrangements, the restoration of essential services, and the groundwork for relief, recovery, and reconstruction.
He affirmed that registration mechanisms, priority criteria, and travel dates will be announced through official channels to ensure transparency, organization, and equal opportunities for all Palestinian citizens.
The border crossing located in the southern Gaza Strip was opened today in both directions for the movement of Palestinians, after it had been completely closed by the Israeli occupation since May 7, 2024, following the invasion and occupation of the city of Rafah, where the occupation forces took control of the land crossing and destroyed all its buildings and facilities.
