Doha: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) expressed its solidarity with Iraq following the tragic fire that broke out on Thursday in a commercial center, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. In a statement, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi extended his deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of Iraq over the victims of the fire.
According to Qatar News Agency, Albudaiwi affirmed the GCC’s solidarity with Iraq during this painful time, praying for mercy upon the deceased, a speedy recovery for the injured, and safety and protection for the people of Iraq.
Earlier today, around 50 people lost their lives and others were injured when a major fire swept through a shopping center in the city of Kut, south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, before civil defense teams managed to bring the blaze under control.
