GCC Population Growth Driven by Economic Diversification and Development Momentum

Doha: The latest report on population growth within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) underscores the region's dynamic economic diversification and ongoing development momentum. Economic expert Dr. Abdullah Al Khater emphasized the positive implications of the population increase for Gulf economies, highlighting the significance of the data released by GCC-Stat.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Khater noted that the population growth of 6.2 million people across GCC countries demonstrates the robust growth trajectory of these economies. This trend confirms the region's capacity for continued expansion and reflects economic diversification across various sectors and activities. Al Khater emphasized that the ability to turn this progress into concrete economic outcomes is crucial for maintaining growth rates while considering the differing absorptive capacities of each Gulf state.

Al Khater pointed to Qatar's economic capabilities, noting the advanced infrastructure developed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup as a key factor in achieving substantial absorptive capacity. This infrastructure has supported economic diversification in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, entertainment, media, and sports. He highlighted the need for skilled workers to manage these facilities and deliver high-quality services.

Qatar's economic model, Al Khater explained, has established significant absorptive and investment capacity, which typically requires long development periods. Qatar's higher growth rates compared to other GCC nations position it as a leader in offering advanced service-driven economic models. This includes sectors like healthcare, education, transportation, and communications, which have seen increased demand and are prepared to accommodate further population growth.

Al Khater also remarked on the economic advantages provided by the expanding size of Gulf economies, highlighting their enhanced international positioning through efficient service and product flows. The growing economic size provides GCC states with greater negotiating leverage in global markets.

Ultimately, Al Khater stated that the sustained population growth across GCC countries reflects the region's rapid economic momentum and highlights the crucial role of demographic forecasting in shaping public policies and infrastructure planning. These efforts support sustainable development and strengthen economic and social integration among GCC states, advancing their goals of economic diversification and sustainability.
