France: A total of 5,764 deaths were recorded during the severe heatwave that struck France between June 17 and July 2, 2026, half of them in just three days between June 25 and 27. This represents the highest daily death toll since the historic heatwave of 2003, according to the national Public Health Agency.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Agency reported that the early and prolonged heatwave affected almost the entire population (98.5%), impacting 92 departments during a crucial period for school and work activities, noting that France experienced its third heatwave in mid-July.
Last year, the national Public Health Agency recorded 5,700 heat-related deaths throughout the summer of 2025.
French authorities had urged the public to exercise caution as hot, dry winds were forecast to intensify toward the end of the week, amid record-high temperatures and increasingly dry vegetation.
