FIFA World Cup 2026: Netherlands Thrash Sweden 5-1 and Top Group F

Doha: Netherlands routed Sweden 5-1 in their second Group F match of the FIFA World Cup 2026, held Saturday at Houston Stadium.

According to Qatar News Agency, Brian Brobbey scored twice for the Netherlands in the 5th and 17th minutes, while Cody Gakpo also struck a brace in the 47th and 54th minutes. Crysencio Summerville added a late goal in the 89th minute, as Sweden's only reply came from Anthony Elanga in the 59th minute.

The result saw the Netherlands move top of Group F with four points, having opened their World Cup campaign with a 2-2 draw against Japan, while Sweden dropped to second place on three points, earned from their 5-1 win over Tunisia in the opening round. Japan sit third with one point ahead of their anticipated clash with bottom-placed Tunisia, who remain without a point, later in the second round of Group F fixtures.
