FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 to Feature Four Renamed Venues in Qatar

Doha: The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 has approved four venues to host the competitions. The chosen venues are Lusail Multipurpose Hall, Duhail Sports Hall, Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, and Al Janoub Stadium. For the duration of the tournament, these venues will be renamed to Lusail Arena, Duhail Arena, Al Attiyah Arena, and Al Janoub Arena, respectively, to ensure homogeneity.

According to Qatar News Agency, this event marks the first instance in the history of the Basketball World Cup where games will be played in a Football World Cup Stadium. Al Janoub Stadium will be transformed into a Basketball Arena with a capacity exceeding 8,000 spectators, showcasing Qatar’s commitment to sustainability and legacy, bridging two significant sporting events.

Mohammed Saad Al Meghaiseeb, Director-General of FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, President of Qatar Basketball Federation, and Member of the FIBA Foundation, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming event. He noted that two years ago, Qatar secured the bid to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027, which brings both honor and responsibility to deliver a remarkable World Cup and uphold Qatar’s legacy in organizing successful sporting events. He highlighted that three venues are ready, while efforts continue to transform Al Janoub Stadium into a Basketball Arena, emphasizing that Al Janoub Arena will be the pinnacle of these efforts.

Al Meghaiseeb also mentioned the main goal for the next two years is to raise awareness and leave a lasting legacy for Basketball in Qatar and the MENA region. As Qatar prepares to welcome fans globally, he assured that with the LOC members, stakeholders, and government support, the nation will be ready to deliver a memorable experience to the Basketball world.

To commemorate the “2 Years to Go” milestone, FIBA, with the support of the FBWC Qatar 2027 LOC, has launched a fan registration website. This platform allows fans to declare their interest and stay connected with tournament updates, including early ticketing information.
