EU High Representative: Situation in Gaza Strip, West Bank Remains Dire

Luxembourg: The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank "remains dire". This statement was made during a press briefing following the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.

According to Qatar News Agency, Kallas highlighted that several EU member states have proposed sanctions against the extremist Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir. However, she noted that no consensus was reached on this issue during the meeting.

Furthermore, Kallas mentioned that numerous countries have urged the European Commission to put forward proposals concerning the entry of goods from illegal settlements into the EU. She committed to relaying this request, asking the Commission to prepare a list of options for potential trade measures ahead of the next Foreign Affairs Council. These measures would include efforts to prevent the import of goods originating from illegal settlements, along with an assessment of the issues related to the rules of origin.
