Egyptian President and Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman Engage in Talks to End Sudan War

Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed in Cairo on Wednesday with the visiting Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, the latest developments in the field situation in Sudan. They also addressed the regional and global efforts aimed at halting the war and restoring stability in Sudan, alongside updates on the Nile water file.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the meeting, El-Sisi underlined Egypt’s full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan, as well as its flat-out rejection of any attempts that would endanger its security, undermine its national cohesion, or form any parallel governing entities to the legitimate Sudanese government. The meeting further underscored the importance of the quad mechanism as an umbrella for pursuing a resolution of the Sudanese crisis, halting the war, and achieving the required stability.

Both Presidents hoped that the meeting of the Quad mechanism, scheduled to take place in Washington this October, would yield concrete outcomes in pursuit of stopping the war and settling the crisis. With respect to updates on the Nile water file, both sides reiterated their absolute rejection of any unilateral measures to be taken on the Blue Nile in contravention of the relevant provisions of international law.

In this regard, Al Burhan stressed the unity of posture between Egypt and Sudan and their aligned interests pertaining to the issue of the Ethiopian dam. Accordingly, the two Presidents agreed to shore up the mechanisms of consultation and coordination between the two countries to ensure protection of their shared water rights.
