Doha: The summit held in Doha today unfolds against the backdrop of recent Israeli aggression, as highlighted by Al-Raya daily’s editorial. This summit convenes while the region grapples with the aftermath of a violent Israeli attack, which has resulted in the loss of Qatari and Palestinian lives, amidst an ongoing siege in Gaza.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya’s editor-in-chief underscored the significance of the Doha summit as a platform to demonstrate solidarity with Qatar, urging measures to safeguard its security and sovereignty. The summit provides an opportunity to unify the Arab stance against the violations of sovereignty and dignity, and to end the culture of impunity that has emboldened Israel to escalate its actions. The editorial called for a comprehensive strategy for Arab unity, recommending an end to cooperation with Israel, a halt to commercial dealings, and a ban on the use of Arab airspace by Israeli aircraft.
Al-Raya further emphasized Qatar’s role under HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, as a mediator promoting global security and stability. Despite facing smear campaigns, Qatar persists in prioritizing the Palestinian cause in its foreign policy. The Israeli attack on Doha is seen as a deliberate targeting of its diplomatic efforts, threatening national sovereignty.
Al-Arab highlighted the preparatory ministerial meeting for the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, which expressed solidarity with Qatar against the Israeli aggression. The meeting saw participation from around 50 ministers and officials from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The summit is perceived as a crucial test of the Arab-Islamic system’s ability to translate its collective stance into tangible actions to hold Israel accountable and to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Meanwhile, The Peninsula reported that foreign ministers convened in a closed-door meeting in Doha to prepare for the summit. HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani condemned the Israeli attack as state terrorism, emphasizing the need to protect Qatar’s sovereignty. The summit is set to discuss measures to halt regional instability and support Qatar’s defensive actions.
