Doha: The Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) is set to participate as a principal organizing partner in the 2026 International Conference on Peace Among Followers of Religions, which will be held in Malacca, Malaysia. The conference's official proceedings are scheduled to begin tomorrow, Saturday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conference will highlight the theme of Malacca and Malaysia as a meeting point for faith, culture, diversity, and harmony, aimed at building a cohesive society. This marks the second consecutive year that DICID is involved as a principal organizing partner, following its participation in the previous edition hosted in Penang, Malaysia, in 2025.
The conference seeks to provide an international platform for exchanging expertise on promoting peace and coexistence. It will explore the role of shared values in building bridges of understanding among followers of different religions and cultures, with the goal of producing recommendations to support the development of cohesive societies.
Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Board of DICID, stated that the Center's participation underscores its commitment to expanding international partnerships and promoting dialogue among religions and cultures. This aligns with the State of Qatar's mission to foster dialogue and mutual understanding among peoples.
He further noted that the Center has extended its efforts beyond local and regional levels, establishing a broad international presence across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, thereby reinforcing Qatar's position as an active partner in promoting global peace.
The Center's delegation is led by board member Dr. Hamed bin Abdulaziz Al Marwani, who is slated to deliver the keynote address on the transformative power of interfaith understanding in building communities, transitioning from diversity to acceptance.
Additionally, the Center will partake in the conference's academic sessions. Dr. Sekou Marafa Toure, a Senior Researcher at the Center, will present during the second plenary session on the obstacles to promoting peace and harmony, and on the role of DICID in supporting dialogue, resolving conflicts, and building peace.
The 2026 conference will gather approximately 150 participants, including religious leaders, government officials, and academics, to discuss mutual understanding among religions as a foundation for peaceful coexistence. It will also focus on respect for diversity, acceptance of others, and stronger cooperation between religious communities and civil society institutions in support of sustainable peace.
