China’s Consumer Inflation Surges to 21-Month High in November

Beijing: China’s annual consumer inflation accelerated to a 21-month peak in November, mainly driven by food prices.

According to Qatar News Agency, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show the consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 0.7% year-on-year in November. This marks an increase from October’s rise of 0.2% and represents the fastest pace of growth since March 2024.

On a monthly basis, the CPI edged down 0.1% last month, the NBS data showed. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, increased by 1.2% year-on-year last month.

Wednesday’s data also revealed that the producer price index, which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, fell 2.2% year-on-year in November.
