Beijing: Chinese officials on Thursday expressed strong opposition to NATO’s actions, accusing the alliance of using China as a pretext to “expand eastward into the Asia-Pacific.” They pointed out that in recent years, NATO has extended beyond its geographic boundaries as outlined in its founding Treaty, increasing its influence and authority.
According to Qatar News Agency, the statement was made by Zhang Xiaogang, the spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, during a press conference. Zhang’s remarks were in response to recent comments from NATO’s Secretary General.
Zhang emphasized that China remains committed to peaceful development and adheres to a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. He highlighted that China’s military advancements are solely focused on protecting national sovereignty, security, and development interests. Furthermore, Zhang stressed that China’s cooperation with Russia is not aimed at any third party and will not be influenced by outside forces.
Zhang accused NATO of stirring up conflicts and provoking wars in different regions, describing the alliance as a “true war machine.” He called on NATO to reevaluate its actions, adjust its approach, and play a more constructive role in promoting global security and stability.
