Doha: The Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, hosted by the State of Qatar, represents a significant opportunity for exchanging experiences among countries and international institutions in the field of combating corruption with a focus on technological innovation and the use of culture as a tool to enhance transparency and accountability, said HE Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Advisory Board Against Corruption Kwami Edem Senanu.
According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency added that holding the 11th session of the Conference in Qatar offers a unique opportunity to benefit from cultural diversity and the exchange of societal values, thus fostering a better understanding of how to confront corruption in innovative and effective ways, while commending the high level of efficiency in organizing the event and managing registration and attendance.
The Conference, he noted, constitutes a strategic platform for exchanging experiences and discussing practical strategies for implementing the Convention, and it allows participating countries to review successes and challenges in combating corruption and explore further steps. The existence of a convention that sets objectives is not sufficient; what is more important is developing and implementing effective strategies to achieve these objectives, in addition to strengthening efforts in this field, he pointed out.
He further said that technology has become one of the most prominent challenges in combating corruption, as it can be exploited for illegal purposes if the necessary measures are not taken. He noted that exchanging expertise in this field among participating countries can help develop innovative skills to confront corrupt practitioners before they circumvent laws and procedures.
He also stressed the importance of international cooperation and discussion of common difficulties among countries, pointing out that sharing experiences among countries that have faced similar challenges provides practical and effective solutions and enhances countries' ability to effectively combat corruption.
HE Chairperson of the AU Advisory Board Against Corruption Kwami Edem Senanu added that the Conference of the States Parties represents an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and develop more effective tools and policies to combat corruption, thus ensuring the sustainable and successful implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
