Benghazi hosts a symposium on illegal immigration.

Tripoli: The Ministry of State for Illegal Migration Affairs of the Libyan government, assigned by the House of Representatives, organized on Thursday a symposium on ‘Illegal Migration between Security and Development Approaches in the Mediterranean.’

The head of the scientific committee of the symposium, Salem Ben Gharbiya, told the Libyan newspaper Al-Anbaa, that the symposium was held in cooperation with the Center for African Studies and Research, with the aim of addressing the migration issue by launching a migration governance project and the repercussions that the region is witnessing, especially since Libya receives a large number of migrants including those crossing to the European bank. .

The symposium concluded that, any measures to address the negative effects of mismanagement of the migration file must be preceded by clear rules requiring the classification of border crossers into categories and inequality between the refugee, the migrant, the worker, and the displaced.

The symposium also, cal
led for the need to provide basic health and educational services to migrants, and to activate the international agreements that Libya had previously concluded by enacting legislation that sets the rules for international agreements to protect human rights into effect.

It recommended forming an integrated medical support team, to support institutions operating in the city of Kofra, to enable displaced people from Sudan, to benefit from health services, and to facilitate the work of relief organizations working to provide support and aid to them.
