Benghazi: The UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, met in Benghazi yesterday with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. 'Today in Benghazi, I held consultations with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. We reviewed the situation and agreed on the necessity to accelerate our collective efforts to put the country on the electoral track as soon as possible and to unify Libyan institutions.' Bathily said in a tweet. 'We also reviewed the overall security landscape considering the regional situation and emphasized the need to implement relevant Security Council resolutions pertaining to foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries to ensure a safe, stable, and prosperous Libya,' he added. Source: Libyan News Agency Damascus, Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad, received on Tuesday a copy of credentials of Mr. Hasan Ahmad al-Shahi as an Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Syrian Arab Republic. During the meeting, the two sides described as 'deep and strong' the relations between Syria and the UAE, calling for boosting them in a way that reflects the interest and vision of Presidents Bashar al-Assad and Sheikh Mohammad bin Zaid Al Nahyan in the benefit of the two brotherly peoples. Mikdad said Syria thanks and appreciates stances of the UAE whether at international forums through its membership in the Security Council, or through its support for its brothers in Syria during the earthquake that hit Syria last February. Ambassador Shahi, for his part, stressed his keenness, as an Ambassador of the UAE to Syria, on boosting bilateral ties to the level that meets aspirations of both leaderships and people.
