Doha: The Australian government announced the delivery of M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a defense assistance package valued at 245 million Australian dollars (approximately $160 million), in support of Kyiv amid its ongoing war with Russia. Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles, in a press statement, said that Ukraine has received the majority of the tanks out of a total of 49, with the remainder expected to be delivered in the coming months.
According to Qatar News Agency, this assistance is part of a total commitment of approximately 1.5 billion Australian dollars ($980 million) that has been allocated to Ukraine since the start of the crisis. Marles noted that these tanks represent an important addition in the context of the ongoing conflict.
