Ashghal Completes Full Opening of Al Kharaitiyat Interchange After Major Development Work

Doha: The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the complete opening of the Al Kharaitiyat interchange following extensive maintenance and development activities, effective from Saturday, in partnership with the General Directorate of Traffic.

According to Qatar News Agency, the reopening encompasses several key routes, including the exit loop for those traveling from Riffa Street towards the North, the loop exit for those coming from the North towards Al Ebb Street, and the exit for those moving from Riffa Street towards Al Ebb Street. Additionally, the bridge exit for travelers from the Al Kharaitiyat area heading towards Doha is now accessible after necessary expansion work aimed at improving traffic circulation.

Eng. Ali Darwish, Head of the Doha Highways Department at the Highway Projects Department, noted that the project’s scope included soil reinforcement with concrete supports prior to initiating maintenance on the main water line with a diameter of 1,600 mm along North Road. A concrete protection box was constructed to safeguard the water line and facilitate future maintenance, in conjunction with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “Kahramaa”.

He highlighted that the maintenance process involved removing the 15-meter-deep earthen bridge down to the main water line and dismantling about 150 units of supporting concrete slabs, which were reinstalled after maintenance completion. This work spanned from May 20, 2025, until its conclusion.

Eng. Abdullah Al Yafei, Head of the Highway Operation and Maintenance Department at Ashghal, emphasized that the expansion works leading to Doha from the Al Kharaitiyat interchange are part of Ashghal’s efforts to enhance traffic flow and road safety. The exit was expanded from one lane to two lanes, helping to alleviate traffic congestion during peak times and facilitating smoother travel for those coming from Riffa Street and Al Kharaitiyat area towards Doha.

This expansion is aimed at improving connectivity between residential and arterial areas and supporting the highway network in line with the state’s infrastructure development plans, adhering to the highest technical and engineering standards.
