Doha: Seven Arab innovators are competing in the final round of the 17th season of the Stars of Science, organized by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development (QF), which airs weekly until October 2025 across several regional broadcasters and online. The innovative projects submitted by the young competitors cover a range of fields, including surgery, health, sustainability, and the environment.
According to Qatar News Agency, the contestants’ inventions range from AI-powered surgical systems to wearable health tools, showcasing regionally grounded solutions for regional challenges. Their inventions are not just a response to global trends but also lead them, reflecting a growing maturity in the regional innovation landscape.
Among the finalists, Mohamed Kahna from Tunisia is developing a real-time surgical guidance system for laparoscopic surgeries, which overlays critical visual and auditory instructions in the operating room. His invention aims to enhance surgical precision and support surgeons during complex procedures.
Khaldoun Megdady from Jordan is working on a 3D coronary artery simulation platform that uses AI-generated anatomical models, allowing surgeons to rehearse bypass procedures. His invention marks a significant advancement in pre-operative planning.
Addressing the growing demand for electric mobility in the Arab Gulf, Mohammad AlShaikh Saleh from Jordan developed an AI-powered system to predict battery failures using physics-based modeling. This system emphasizes reliability and transparency, backed by his expertise in Electrical Computer Engineering.
Inspired by Oman’s maritime sector, Mohammed Al Mur Al Salmi created an enzyme-based spray to prevent bacterial buildup on underwater surfaces, offering an eco-friendly alternative to toxic marine coatings. His work aligns with recent environmental efforts between Oman and Qatar.
Laid Dardabou from Algeria developed a smart watch-integrated tracker for monitoring vitamin D and other biomarkers in real time, aiming to empower users in managing their mental health.

Since its inception in 2009, Stars of Science, hosted at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), a member of Qatar Foundation, has been a catalyst for innovation across the Arab world, with over 313 episodes aired, 175 alumni from 18 Arab countries, and more than 55 alumni-founded businesses launched.
