Arab and Islamic Nations Condemn Israel’s Military Plans in Gaza

Cairo: The ministerial committee, appointed by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Gaza, alongside 23 countries, the Arab League, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s proposed plan to impose full military control over Gaza. The countries involved include Egypt, Palestine, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Mauritania, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Chad, Djibouti, Somalia, Türkiye, and Gambia.

According to Nam News Network, the joint statement described Israel’s intention as a significant and unacceptable escalation, a violation of international law, and an effort to cement illegal occupation through force, disregarding international legitimacy. The statement also highlighted that Israel’s actions, such as killing, starvation, forced displacement, and land annexation, are tantamount to crimes against humanity.

In Cairo, discussions between Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan underscored their opposition to the military re-occupation of the Gaza Strip. They called for an immediate ceasefire, the provision of humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages, emphasizing their stance against the displacement of Palestinians.

Since late July, an international airdrop operation involving 11 countries has delivered over 1,100 aid packages to Gaza. Greece and Italy joined the effort for the first time, collaborating with the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Germany, and the Netherlands. However, United Nations officials stress that these airdrops are insufficient in addressing the humanitarian crisis without the opening of land crossings by Israel for more substantial aid and medical access.
