Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani held significant diplomatic conversations on Sunday, receiving phone calls from HE President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and HE President of Cyprus Dr. Nikos Christodoulides. These discussions come as Qatar prepares to host the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit.
According to Qatar News Agency, the summit has prompted a flurry of high-level meetings and arrivals in Doha. HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani expressed Qatar’s gratitude for the solidarity shown by Arab, Islamic, and international communities against the recent Israeli attack targeting Hamas Political Bureau members in Doha. His engagements included meetings with HE National Security Advisor of the UK Jonathan Powell and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye, Hakan Fidan, as part of the preparatory ministerial meeting for the summit.
Key global leaders have arrived in Doha for the summit, including HE President of the Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, HE Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr. Anwar Ibrahim, and leaders from the Union of the Comoros, Somalia, Djibouti, Libya, Palestine, and Mauritania. These leaders are set to partake in discussions aimed at addressing pressing challenges facing the Arab and Islamic nations.
The preparatory ministerial meeting took place in Doha on Sunday, setting the stage for Monday’s summit. HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi and Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies Patrick Pouyanne announced the commencement of major projects in Iraq, highlighting Qatar’s ongoing international cooperation efforts.
Furthermore, HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad and HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi engaged with counterparts from Egypt, the UK, and Syria, reinforcing Qatar’s diplomatic outreach.
HE President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh emphasized the importance of solidarity among Arab and Islamic nations and the rejection of aggression against fraternal states, underscoring the summit’s significance in fostering unity and cooperation.
In a related development, HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi received a phone call from HE Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, further illustrating Qatar’s active role in regional diplomacy.
