Moscow: HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Russian Federation Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Thani emphasized the significant attention and appreciation that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s visit to Moscow is receiving from both senior officials and citizens in Russia.
According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency noted the respect and admiration for HH the Amir in Russia, highlighting the increasing interest in the State of Qatar. This growing interest is evident through various meetings and engagements with officials, as well as representatives from academic, intellectual, and cultural circles, and citizens participating in events organized by the Qatari Embassy.
The ambassador pointed out that media reports in Russia have been highlighting Qatar’s achievements, such as the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and its humanitarian efforts, including reuniting children affected by the conflict in Ukraine with their families. He stressed that Qatar’s commitment to restoring stability and peace in the Middle East, its mediation efforts in Gaza, and its role concerning Afghanistan are valued by the Russian side.
Regarding the upcoming Qatari-Russian summit, HE Ambassador Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Thani stated that discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields. International and regional issues, including the Middle East peace process and the situation in Gaza, will also be addressed, with both nations sharing a common stance on the need for a ceasefire and political resolution.
The ambassador praised the strong and historic friendship between Qatar and Russia, noting significant developments in trade, investment, sports, and political coordination. He highlighted the personal relationship between HH the Amir and HE President Vladimir Putin as a cornerstone of the bilateral relations, built on mutual respect, understanding, and shared interests.
HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Thani further noted initiatives to enhance closeness between the two peoples, such as visa exemptions boosting tourism and the establishment of the Qatar Center for the Arabic Language in Russia. The center offers Russian students opportunities to learn Arabic and explore Qatari culture. Additionally, the embassy’s annual Arabic language competition awards scholarships for Russian students to study in Doha, fostering cultural exchange.
In sports, the ambassador highlighted cooperation between Qatari and Russian clubs and federations, emphasizing ongoing discussions to enhance collaboration and exchange experiences in this field.
