The Protection and Social Rehabilitation Center (AMAN), one of the centers of the Qatar Social Work Foundation, participated in the consultative seminar on violence against women and girls: causes and consequences. Chaired by HE Chairperson of the Union of Kuwaiti Women Associations Sheikha Fadia Saad Al Abdullah Al-Sabah, the seminar was held in the State of Kuwait in cooperation with the Geneva Institute for Human Rights (GIHR) and the United Nations, in the attendance of United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls Reem Alsalem.
The consultative seminar was attended by representatives of non-governmental organizations working in the field of combating violence against women and girls, as well as the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Kuwait Hideko Hadzialic and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights' (OHCHR) Regional Office, in addition to the United Nations Population Fund.
Executive Director of AMAN Center Sheikh Dr. Nasser bin Ahmed Al-Thani participated in the consultative seminar. This participation comes within the framework of AMAN Center's keenness on communal, regional, and international partnership with government agencies, civil society, the public, and the private sector, and is part of a qualitative international effort to prevent violence against women, children, and victims of family disintegration.
During the seminar, Executive Director of AMAN Center Sheikh Dr. Nasser bin Ahmed Al-Thani presented AMAN Center's experience in the field of social protection, highlighting its most important services for women such as raising awareness, offering women protection, rehabilitation and integration into society, and dedicating a hotline service (919), in addition to providing temporary shelter, and the Consult AMAN electronic application dedicated to women.
This consultative seminar coincides with Union of Kuwaiti Women Associations' celebration of Kuwaiti Women's Day, falling on May 16 annually.
