Al wakrah: Al Wakrah Sports Club has renewed its contract with Chilean coach Jose Luis Sierra as head coach of the first football team for one season, 2026/2027. Sierra took over the team just three months before the end of the last season, stepping in after the departure of former coach Vicente Moreno.
According to Qatar News Agency, Sierra has shown effective leadership with Al Wakrah, guiding the team to an eighth-place finish in the previous Qatar Stars League season. Under his management, the team accumulated 27 points through seven wins and six draws.
Sierra, 57, began his coaching career in 2010 with Chilean side Union Espanola. His first venture into Gulf football came with Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad, where he managed the team from 2016 to 2018 and secured victories in both the Crown Prince Cup and the King's Cup.
The Chilean coach has also managed Shabab Al Ahli in the UAE and returned to Al Ittihad for another season. He then led Chilean side Palestino during the 2020-2021 season. Prior to joining Al Wakrah, Sierra coached Al Tai of Saudi Arabia for the 2021-2022 season and subsequently managed Saudi club Al Wehda from 2022 to 2025.
