The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, affirmed that depriving terrorism of funding and pursuing money laundering operations is a priority issue within our executive program, which was approved by the Parliament, which was embodied in the current government's approval of the fifth annual report of the Council for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing for the year 2022, during one of the previous cabinet sessions,.
Al-Sudani indicated, during his meeting with the head and members of the international assessment team concerned with combating money laundering and terrorist financing. He pointed out the importance of the cooperation of international bodies and friendly countries with Iraq in combating money laundering and recovering wanted persons, stressing that Iraq has fought terrorism on behalf of the world, and today it faces the challenge of sleeping terrorist cells and extremist ideology calling for violence, so depriving these systems of all sources of funding requires the cooperation of all.
A statement by the Prime Minister's Media Office said that during the meeting, they reviewed Iraq's efforts in the areas of combating money laundering, and the performance of government and security agencies concerned with pursuing terrorism and drying up its funding sources.
For its part, the international assessment team appreciated Iraq's steps in this regard, the success in recovering the looted funds, the relentless efforts to eliminate ISIS, liquidate what remained of its cells, besiege financing networks and promote discourse in support of terrorism.
