Al Raya Praises Qatari Women’s Status in the Judiciary

Doha: Al Raya newspaper affirmed that Qatari women have made significant strides across various fields, thanks to the unwavering support of the country’s wise leadership, which strongly believes in empowering women socially, economically, politically, and educationally.

According to Qatar News Agency, as a result, Qatari women have reached high-level leadership positions both locally and internationally, including in the judiciary, and have fulfilled their responsibilities with professionalism and success. The newspaper said in its editorial today that the State of Qatar consistently emphasizes, in every international forum, the importance of women’s participation in public institutions, including the judicial system.

The paper explained that Qatar believes that gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls are essential drivers of progress toward achieving the full range of sustainable development goals. This is being pursued through the implementation of effective national strategies and action plans aimed at elevating women’s status within judicial systems and institutions, whether in leadership, administrative roles, or beyond.

It highlighted that the State of Qatar has actively worked to strengthen women’s presence in the judiciary both locally and globally. In fact, Qatar was among the first Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to promote women’s participation in the judiciary, an achievement made possible by extensive legal reforms that included reviewing, amending, and enacting laws to bolster women’s status and remove barriers to their empowerment and advancement.

The newspaper emphasized that empowering women and securing their rights is a foundational pillar of the success of Qatar National Vision 2030, which places strong emphasis on ensuring women’s right to work and access to leadership positions, particularly in the judiciary and law enforcement. It added that Qatar led the region in appointing women as judges, noting that many Qatari female law graduates from Qatar University have entered this prestigious profession in recent years.

The newspaper also pointed out that the State of Qatar’s efforts to support women in the judiciary extend beyond the local and regional level to the global stage. It proudly referenced Qatar’s leadership in the international effort to establish Mar. 10 as the United Nations-designated International Day of Women Judges. This initiative underscores Qatar’s commitment to giving women judges equal opportunities for employment and career advancement in the judiciary, alongside their male counterparts.

In conclusion, Al Raya said that Qatari women have every reason to be proud of their accomplishments, as they have proven their competence in all areas of judicial work. Their presence in the justice system reflects the country’s broader vision of achieving equality and balance in employment and empowerment opportunities.
