New york: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari participated in a high-level discussion panel titled "Centering Local and Regional Actors in Global Mediation: Lessons from the Gulf," as part of the Global Citizen Now Summit, sponsored by the Open Society Foundations, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Qatar News Agency, during the panel, Dr. Al Ansari emphasized Qatar's unwavering commitment to its role as an honest mediator in regional and international conflicts, despite the growing challenges and attempts to disrupt and target its efforts. He highlighted Qatar's unique position as a small yet multinational and multicultural nation, which equips it with a profound understanding of the complex social, political, and cultural dynamics of global conflicts.
Dr. Al Ansari elaborated on Qatar's strategic decision since the mid-1990s to extend its influence beyond its geographical boundaries by actively participating in international mediation efforts. He cited Qatar's involvement in peace initiatives in countries such as Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Afghanistan, and Iran, underscoring the country's dedication to fostering peace and stability.
Additionally, Dr. Al Ansari addressed a recent Israeli attack on a residential neighborhood in Doha, labeling it as an unprecedented and unacceptable escalation. Despite this, Qatar remains steadfast in its mediation efforts, including hosting peace talks between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) and contributing to family reunification efforts in Ukraine.
He also reiterated the sentiments of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, who stated that while Qatar does not claim to have all the solutions, it provides a platform for conflicting parties to come together and pursue peace. Qatar, in collaboration with its partners in the United Nations and the international community, is committed to continuing its mission of facilitating dialogue and resolution.
