Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck the South Sandwich Islands on Monday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The South Sandwich Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean, lie in a highly seismically active zone where the South American and Scotia tectonic plates converge.
