5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Peloponnese Peninsula in Greece

Athens: An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck southwest of the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece. The seismic event occurred approximately 16 kilometers off the coast of the small town of Methoni and at a depth of 9 kilometers.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Institute of Geodynamics of the University of Athens provided the details of the earthquake's location and depth. Panagiotis Karvelas, the mayor of the region, confirmed in a statement to the Hellenic Radio that no damage has been recorded so far, although the earthquake was clearly felt.

Greek media reported that the tremors were also experienced by residents in western Crete. Greece is situated in a seismically active region and is no stranger to strong earthquakes.
