5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia’s Maluku Province

Maluku: An earthquake measuring five magnitude on the Richter scale struck Maluku Province in Indonesia on Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was 205 km from the Tanimbar Islands in the province, at a depth of 185 km.

No human losses or material damage have been reported due to the earthquake so far.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
