Doha: An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, located in the Kamchatka Peninsula of eastern Russia.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 24.9 km. This seismic event adds to the region’s history of frequent earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a wide arc known for its volcanic activity.
In August, the Kamchatka region recorded a total of 50 earthquakes, with one of them measuring a significant 6.5 on the Richter scale. The area’s geological activity is closely monitored due to its potential impact on local populations and infrastructure.
