An earthquake measuring 4.6 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the Pacific Ocean northeast of the Kuril Islands in Russia.
The earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean, 467.6 km west of Kurilsk town at a depth of 23 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
There were no reports of a possible tsunami.
The Kuril Islands form part of the ring of tectonic instability encircling the Pacific Ocean referred to as the Ring of Fire.
