3rd Jerusalem Arab Film Festival Begins

Attended by a lineup of film creators and cinema lovers, the third edition of the Jerusalem Arab Film Festival (JAFF) started at the Palestinian National Theater (Al-Hakawati Theatre) with 32 films participating from across 10 countries.

The festival will run through July 16th, and will feature discussions, meet and greets with directors, and screenwriting and documentary making workshops.

According to festival director Nevin Shaheen, this edition’s program is full of films that address various issues, over five days of sense, pain and hopes, dreams and aspirations, memories and history, of the Arab people.

At the opening ceremony, the festival screened the Egyptian film (19B) by Egyptian director Ahmed Abdallah Al Sayed, while the rest of the program included films from Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Sudan, Jordan and Palestine.

Also, some prominent feature films included in the program, ‘The Island of Forgiveness’ by the Tunisian director Ridha Behi, ‘Mediterranean Fever’ by the Palestinian director Maha Haj, and ‘Riverbed’ by the Lebanese director Bassem Breish.

The program also includes documentary films, such as ‘Take Me to The Cinema’ by Iraqi director Albaqer Jafeer, ‘Heroic Bodies’ by Sudanese director Sara Suliman, and ‘Little Palestine’ by Palestinian director Abdallah Al Khatib.
