30 Migrants Rescued, 40 Drown after Boat Capsizes Off Tunisian Coast

Mahdia: At least 40 illegal migrants died Wednesday when their boat capsized off the Tunisian coast. Walid Shatbri, spokesperson for the Mahdia Court in eastern Tunisia, reported that a boat carrying 70 migrants sank off the country’s coast.

According to Qatar News Agency, Shatbri confirmed that 40 bodies, including those of infants, were recovered, and 30 others were rescued. The incident highlights the ongoing migrant crisis in the region.

The coasts of North Africa have experienced a significant influx of illegal migrants aiming to reach the southern coasts of European Union (EU) countries for years. These perilous journeys have led to the drowning of thousands, as indicated by statistics from the International Organization for Migration.
