The Turkish President heads to Doha tomorrow

Istanbul Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to arrive in Doha tomorrow, Monday, on an official visit at the head of a delegation to attend the meetings of the seventh session of the Joint High Strategic Committee between the two countries.

The Turkish Ambassador to Qatar, Mustafa Kokso, said in a press statement that the meetings of the seventh session will witness the signing of more cooperation agreements between the two countries in the fields of culture, trade, investment, relief, youth and sports, event organization, diplomacy, development and health.

The Turkish Ambassador added that the committee contributes not only to strengthening bilateral relations between Doha and Ankara, but also to converging views on foreign policy, and that the previous six sessions had been held over the past years since the establishment of the committee, during which Erdogan signed with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed dozens of important agreements in various fields, especially in the economic and military fields.

Kokso indicated that “there are 183 companies with Qatari capital operating in Turkey, while there are 711 Turkish companies operating in Qatar, including 47 companies with 100 percent Turkish capital, in addition to 15 companies registered in the Qatar Free Zone.”

According to the Turkish Ambassador, “the current value of Qatari investments in Turkey amounted to 33.2 billion dollars until January of last year, while the total value of the projects implemented by the Turkish contracting industry in Qatar amounted to 18.6 billion dollars, as Qatar is the eighth country in which most projects are implemented outside Turkey.”

Since the establishment of the Joint Higher Strategic Committee between Qatar and Turkey in 2014, the two countries have signed 68 agreements in the fields of economy, industry, defense, security, investment, energy, culture, intellectual property, education, youth and economy, and other cooperation agreements.

It is noteworthy that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to nearly two billion dollars, and the main Turkish exports to Qatar vary in the areas of building supplies, electrical and electronic equipment, furniture, carpets, building materials, jewelry, and dairy products, while Turkey imports from Qatar unprocessed aluminum and liquefied gas.
