Football’s ruling body FIFA will suspend Russia from its competitions, including the upcoming World Cup play-offs and the 2022 World Cup, sources have told dpa. The decision comes after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended to sports federations that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to compete in international sports events in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Belarus’ support of it.
