Qatar University (QU) hosted on October 30 2018, the 11th International Conference on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Regional Development (ICEIRD) 2018. The conference is considered a meeting of minds for economic affairs in the State of Qatar and is one of the world’s leading international conferences. It boasts an impressive global reach, bringing together academics, professionals and entrepreneurs from around the world to discuss entrepreneurship practices and policies, innovation and the determined effort to achieve sustainable economic development by formulating supportive policies.
Qatar University President, Dr. Hassan Bin Rashid Al-Derham spoke at the event saying, We at QU are thrilled to host this international conference on entrepreneurship and innovation, which is being held outside of Europe for the first time since its launch in 2007. Holding this conference in Qatar points as evidence to two things, the first, the stability we enjoy in Qatar and its positive impact on the strength of our country. The second, is evidence of the support of the state in the effort to transform into a knowledge-based economy by 2030, which we at QU work hard to accomplish.
Dr. Khalid Al-Abdulqader, Dean of College of Business & Economics (CBE), at QU said, “We are confident that the forum will highlight the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation and the efforts that have contributed to achieving Qatar’s great ambition in the field of economic development. For this reason, I expect the conference will provide valuable insight that will be implemented and transformed into practical and real results, in the road to building a strong and sustainable economy.
Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFE), an initiative of the CBE, Dr. Mahmoud Abdullatif, adds, “We consider the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation as being one of the main objectives in terms of QU’s strategy. Here we find our mission, which is to provide students and graduates with the skills and expertise needed to contribute to Qatar’s development. This is necessary for future generations. Small and medium sized businesses are one of the cornerstones for achieving the economic diversification required for national development. Through our center, we work towards supporting students and graduates in setting up their own businesses. Such businesses benefit the individual by increasing their income and they also increase national income.
The conference was organized under the auspices of Qatar Development Bank (QDB), which is the conferences strategic partner, the economics zones company ‘Manateq,’ an economic partner and Qatar National Bank (QNB) as a gold sponsor.
