Baghdad, Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein paid an official visit to the Qatari capital, Doha, and held talks with Qatari officials.
A Foreign Ministry statement said today, “Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, received Minister Fouad Hussein in Doha, where the Minister conveyed to him the greetings of leaders in Iraq, and they discussed relations between the two countries and how to create investment opportunities in the next stage, calling for Qatari companies to take the initiative to work in Iraq and at various levels.
They also discussed the security situation in the region, and the need to start working towards creating collective initiatives to preserve the security of the countries of the region and to create the correct and possible dialogue frameworks to reach the desired goals.
Fouad Hussein met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. During the meeting, the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries were reviewed, and the need to increase coordination in various fields related to the situation in the region.
The Minister congratulated his Qatari counterpart on the occasion of restoring relations between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to their right track, and then extended an invitation to the Qatari minister to visit Iraq. For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, expressed his acceptance of the invitation and promised to conduct it in the coming period.
The most prominent regional and international developments of common interest were also discussed during the meeting.
During his visit to Doha, the Minister, accompanied by Ambassador Omar Al-Barzanji, went to the headquarters of the Iraqi Embassy and met with the Embassy staff, during which he continued the work progress at the Embassy, stressing: the importance of enhancing Iraq’s presence within the policy of balance and building stability and openness to all parties, in a way that serves the interests of Iraq and the region.
