Iraq is within it.. An international operation of Interpol that topples the gangs smuggling migrants and human trafficking

Dubai The UAE Ministry of Interior participated in the global operation “Libertera” concerned with combating migrant smuggling, human trafficking and other related crimes on these transcontinental routes, which was coordinated by the International Criminal Police Organization “Interpol” with the participation of 47 countries, and the Ministry played a pivotal role as the host Operations room for participating teams from the Middle East, Asia and North Africa.

This international operation, which was carried out in coordination among all the agencies of the participating countries, led to the arrest of 286 people, the rescue of 430 victims of human trafficking, the liberation of 4,000 illegal immigrants in 74 countries around the world, and the police agencies around the world carrying out a number of operational activities within the “Libertera” operation, including raids, intensification of patrols and the exchange of information, inspections at airports and border crossings amounted to 500,000 operations, and 60 new investigations were launched around the world.

This joint global operation was supported by the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Europol, the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World, the Flyway Project, the Regional Operations Center in support of the Khartoum Process and the African Union and Horn of Africa Initiative.

The participation of the UAE represented by the Ministry of Interior comes within the framework of its keenness to coordinate effectively with all countries and within international institutions and organizations to enhance the fight against crime in all its forms, especially crimes related to human trafficking, as the UAE is a major partner in the global campaign to combat this cross-border crime and is the first country in the region enact a comprehensive anti-trafficking law that complies with all international laws and treaties, includes deterrent penalties, enhances awareness of crimes related to human trafficking, and provides support and protection for victims and eyewitnesses.

The Arab countries participating in the operation, along with the UAE, included Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Algeria, Sudan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia.
