His Excellency Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) chaired the Committee’s 47th meeting to discuss priorities and objectives in combating human trafficking.
His Excellency welcomed committee members during the remote meeting and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation to support national and international efforts to combat this crime.
The Committee presented on the latest human rights issues in the UAE, efforts of stakeholders in this regard, and achievements in line with national aspirations and international obligations. His Excellency underscored the UAE’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, His Excellency praised the role of UAE institutions caring for and sheltering victims of human trafficking in light of COVID-19. He also highlighted the NCCHT’s work in combating human trafficking and unifying efforts with other UAE entities.
His Excellency underlined the importance of cooperation and coordination between UAE authorities to continue conducting public awareness campaigns. Gargash affirmed the importance of enhancing national capabilities to combat human trafficking, which is considered a form of modern slavery and human rights violation.
His Excellency commented upon the NCCHT’s high level of international cooperation by signing memoranda of understanding in the field of combating human trafficking and participating in international fora. In this regard, His Excellency pointed out that the UAE has also successfully employed technology to combat human trafficking.
His Excellency praised the efforts of Committee members in combating human trafficking, as well as the UAE’s tireless work in combating this crime on the local, national, and international levels.
